Fiberglass

When thinking about insulation, fiberglass insulation most often comes to mind. Fiberglass insulation is the most widely used type of home insulation. Why? Its versatility and price point. Fiberglass insulation can be used in any application – blown in to attics, packed in to walls, to reduce sound transfer between rooms and more.

When combined with air sealing, fiberglass can provide similar benefits to spray foam at a lower price point. Air sealing prevents air from moving between the interior and exterior of a home or other building. By closing gaps that leak air, your home will retain the cooled or heated air inside your home. This helps lower your energy costs and can help reduce wear and tear on your cooling and heating system. Combining air sealing with properly installed fiberglass insulation can provide excellent energy benefits at a price point desired by many homeowners.

Fiberglass insulation comes in two forms:

Fiberglass Batt Insulation
Fiberglass batt insulation comes in rolls or long strips. It’s typically the form of insulation that comes to mind when thinking about fiberglass insulation. Kraft faced fiberglass batt insulation is commonly installed in our region. This paper works to reduce vapor transmission, eliminating the need to install a separate vapor barrier.

Blown-in Fiberglass Insulation
Blown-in fiberglass insulation is regularly used to increase r-value in attics of existing homes. It can also be blown into wall cavities in new construction and existing homes.
